About 

Mehnaz Hoosein is an award winning singer and performer from Mumbai, India. She achieved international success with her hit song, “Miss India,” which won her the Channel V Music Award and the Screen Videocon Award for Best Female Pop Vocalist. Combining her distinct musical style with high-energy dancing, a legacy of her Shiamak Davar training, she has toured and performed widely across India, Asia, Middle East, Europe, Canada and USA. 

Mehnaz has released three solo albums for BMG and Universal Music India. Her songs have been featured for soundtracks of several films, including a duet (“You Are The Reason”) for Dev Benegal’s award-winning film, “Split Wide Open, recorded with the famed band, Air Supply.

Mehnaz has supported and performed at global causes such as raising funds for children and young people affected in the Bosnia conflict, Earthquake relief in Gujarat, India, Peace concert in Mumbai, Aids Awareness concert in Pune, India, The Spastic Society of India and The Prime Minster’s Relief Fund for tsunami survivors.  

In 2007 she moved to Seattle and collaborated with local musicians who eventually formed the core of the Seattle-based band, Manooghi Hi. Mehnaz was lead singer of the Seattle-based band Manooghi Hi, voicing her blend of Hindustani classical and tabla bols while singing in several South Asian languages.

Manooghi Hi released two albums: “Hi” and “Silence” and has performed at multiple high-profile festivals including Seattle’s “Bumbershoot Arts Festival”, Austin’s “SXSW” music conference, “Sundance Film Festival” in Park City Utah, “Oregon Country Fair” in Eugene Oregon, Salem Oregon’s “World Music Festival” and Darrington, Washington’s “Summer Meltdown”.

Manooghi Hi has also played concerts for Seattle City Hall and in prestigious Northwest rock clubs including repeat performances at “Triple Door”, “Crocodile Cafe”, “Neumo’s” & “Chop Suey”. Press for Manooghi Hi has reached an international level having been notably featured in “Seattle Magazine”, “Seattle Times”, “Times of India” and “People” magazine in India to name a few. Manooghi Hi, was featured at the Seattle museum, MOHAI (Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nations).

In 2012, Mehnaz moved to New Orleans and collaborated with renowned artists, performing at various music clubs, festivals and weddings. She was featured at the 2015 and 2018 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. She also performed with Indian Master Sarode player, Aashish Khan in New Orleans.

Mehnaz is currently living in Seattle and continues to pursue her love for music. She has performed at the Seattle Arts Museum for the stunning exhibition, Peacock In The Desert: The Royal Arts Of Jodhpur, India.

Mehnaz is passionate about inspiring, empowering, and uniting children through music. She has created workshops on Musical Diversity introducing music and culture from India. 

Mehnaz is a versatile singer who loves performing live and has close to three decades of experience. She thrives on musical collaborations with artists from around the world. Her music genres range from Pop, Jazz, Folk, Rock, Bollywood, Hindustani Classical and World Fusion. She has an extensive repertoire of songs to choose from and can perform in any musical configuration.

Mehnaz Hoosein and Renard Boissiere are Neela, an act whose repertoire is anchored in folk, pop and jazz traditions of world music.
